The classic northern comedy with a dramatic heart. Sensitive, bookish Arthur and virginial Jenny his new bride are forced by economic circumstances to live with his parents – his gentle mum and good-hearted but rough-tongued dad, who finds it hard to understand why his son is so different to him. The lack of privacy in their cramped two up two down is so inhibiting that poor Arthur is unable to consummate the marriage and gradually, word begins to get around.
