About Ian Smith
Born in Manchester, he has always had a passion for photography. Even as a working dad of two, he managed to keep his finger on the button by capturing images of the many countries they have travelled to as a family, including Germany, Belgium and Holland to name a few.
He is currently a 2nd year student studying for a BA in Photography at the University of Bolton. He says this educational programme has provided a massive inspiration to improve his natural fondness for photography.
His preceding work reflects his roots in North England and North Wales. Photographic areas of interest include: landscapes, coastal scenes, documentary and reportage, amongst many others. He is always experimenting and learning new skills to stay fresh in the practical side of his work. At the moment he is exploring large format cameras and dark room techniques.
For 2017 he is planning, along with his son Mark, an expedition to the Western Isles of Scotland, to retrace a journey made by photographer Paul Strand in the 1940’s.
