The Cemetery Club 9 – 14 April 2018

A comedy about friendship and late autumn romance, by Ivan Menchell

The place is New York. Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husband’s graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life, Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun, and Doris is priggish and judgemental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene.

Sam meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave, his arrival unintentionally provoking rivalry between the three friends. The consequences lead to revelations, guilt and eventually reconciliation.
